Just joined and glad to discover another forum for gasser guys and their interests! I built my first gasser in 1971, right at the end of the era. It was a 1955 Chevy business coupe, with a well built 283, and Muncie 4 speed, chrome tube axle, and big old white ladder bars. No pics, as it was stolen not long after I finished it. After nearly 40 years of gasserless existence I decided it was time to build another gasser. Found my stock 1946 Austin A10 in a local equipment supply store, and began building. My Austin is powered by a late 60's 327 bored .040", with old 2.02 fueler heads and an Isky 270 Mega Cam. Intake is an old Holley Pro Dominator with the canted carb bases, and a pair of Holley 450cfm carbs with mechanical secondaries. Ignition is a stock distributor, with Pertronix kit and an MSD 6a to boost spark. Here's a pic of the Austin when I bought it two years ago: And another as it is today:

Thanks! Here's another shot of the engine compartment. 1969 327 SBC, with old Holley Pro Dominator intake, and dual 450 Holleys:

Having some sloppiness in my not so traditional B&M shifter lately. It was a used swap meet Megashifter that only ratchets on upshift, and had trouble going from ratchet to regular for downshifting. Since it was a rainy day, I decided to tear it out in the garage, and install another B&M shifter; the Pro Ratchet, which ratchets both directions, and has reverse/park lockout. Reused my old cable, and only had to drill one new mounting hole, so it went smooth. The smaller box that covers the shifter is cleaner, although still not traditional looking. Gotta make some compromises for reliabitiy, and performance some places!

Little update to the Austin gasser. Lost the engine a couple weeks ago when #8 cylinder spun a rod bearing. Upon inspection and teardown I found #8 had spun so badly the bearing halves were on top of each other! The crank was worn so badly by the time I got off the freeway and home that it's beyond saving I think. So I sold the remains to a engine rebuilder and bought a virgin used 350 4 bolt main SBC truck engine from a buddy. I kept the old 2.02" Fueler heads that I had completely reworked, as they were almost new. The 350 is at the local engine rebuilder now getting bored .030", turned 10/10 on the crank, polished, balanced, and a new Crower 280 cam indexed in for it. Once it's done in a few weeks I'll bolt my heads and intake on, and hopefully be done with any more engine woes. The 327 was a disappointment from the beginning, as the seller turned out to be less than honest about much of what he claimed was done, so I'm glad to be done with it. The new 350 wont be some monster engine, but should be around 375 HP from what the shop tells me, so that's plenty for my little 2200 lb. Austin to have fun with!
