I'm staring on a 62 Ranchero gasser project and am looking for any info on the what straight axle setup might to the easiest to come by and will work the best? I have looked at what Speedway motors and Jim Meyers offers but was wondering what older Ford dropped I beam axle would work. What about springs (how many leafs etc) would be need to support a SBC motor? Any and all info, links etc would be greatly appricated.
Thanks

Welcome! You know, your Ranchero is a narrow car and the Speedway axle might be the best option. I believe that the Chevy and Ford factory axles would have to be narrowed to work with your car, which is fine if you have the resources to have that done properly. I believe that 5 or 6 leafs are pretty common. Good Luck with the build!
