I have a 64 ranchero that needs the front suspension either replaced with new stock parts or removed and replaced with a gasser axel or a mustang II set-up. The mustang two set up would require a lot more expense, but would not have the cool factor of a straight axle. My concern is will the straight axle wander down the road or, if installed properly, go down the hwy straight? Also, is there anyone in the socal or mohave county area that could do this mod for me? Thanks Great site!

I had problems with my Nova with wandering when I had the Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires on the front of it. I switched them out to regular 165R15 radials and the problem went away. i would say that as long as you have the 4 wheels properly aligned, you shouldn't have a problem with this. I don't know why the tires seemed to make a difference with mine, but I would rather use the radials on the front anyway, they also last longer.
Nice Ranchero by the way. I dig on Falcons, especially 65's.

My 57 goes straight as an arrow. I run radials also. Been wanting to try bias ply tires for a while but they like to catch a groove. I say put the axle under it so you can see over the fence!

Just in case I wasn't entirely clear... Go with the axle!

If you use 4 link with coil overs or cross spring or parallel leaf springs, build 7 to 8 degrees positive castor. With this setup we drive ours constantly on the street or at 110 mph on the strip and it handles like a go-kart. When we first built ours we used a Speedway Axle and had problems where the camber kept changing due to what apeared to be axle flexing. A year later we took it out and bought an axle from Specialty Cars in Calif. and set it at 7 1/2 degrees positive castor. 0 camber and 1/8 inch toe in. We run Mickey Thompson Sportsman Tires on front at the dragstrip and Hoosier fronts on the street. The truck handles perfect . CASTOR is the important part.

Setup properly and with radials(yuck, but I have them too) it will handle just fine. Bias tires have a tendency to grab the cracks like has been said (but they look cool as hell!). Go for it!!!
