I have a straight axel front end (maybe ford spindles,57 chevy rear) can I pull parts from the re-cycling yards to fab one up, trying to do this the old fashioned way.(cheap!).also I want to cage it I was told I have to weld the cage to the frame not the body because it has a frame. can anyone elaberate on this or is there another way to do it. thanks BOB.

you need to elaborate on what you need for the axle. (springs, shackles or what?) also, what does the rear end have to do with the axle needs? if it is only for the street, bolting to the sheet metal should be ok. if you plan to race it, it must be welded to the frame for strength.
