well i have been looking around here long enough. i have been on and off about putting a straight axle under the front of my 62 ranchero for a long time. as it sits it is setup for a v8 but i dont feel like messing with the shock towers and i think i just want to set it up for a SBC as i have a nice never been bored 327 that is begging to be built up. i read that the speedway kit seems the best for these but is it strong enough to see track duity? i have read here about how to set it up so it tracks well but read somewhere here about how the speedway axle flexed and if i plan on taking it to the track won't that just make matters worse? thanks for this great site!!!

Nice start to a gasser. I love it, a chevy small block in a ranchero. I had a 65 Falcon wagon that I was going to drop a small block chevy into. As for your question, if you plan on running lower than 10's at the track, there are some things that could be beefed up on the Speedway axle kit, but if you're going that fast, there's a bunch of other stuff that can break as well. If you just want a cruiser that sees some 11 second or slower times, just go with the Speedway kit. My opinion. My Nova's been done for 8 years now, seen a lot of street use, hit many a pot-hole, and the only problem I've had was the spring perches on the axle bent. If you gusset everthing correctly, it should not be a problem.

thanks for the info yea i am looking for low 12's high 11's basicly a bracket car. i saw a seller on ebay who has a complete straight axle hit he sells for 1300 using gm disk brakes. i asume it is a speedway kit put together because the axle meassures exactly the same as the speedway kit. and yea i also asume that it would need some extra bracing to be sturdy. i am gonna start ripping into it once the weather warms up a bit.
