Finally got started on my 56. Chassis almost finished front an rear. 455 Olds bored .040 with M22 Muncie behind it. Looking for a 2X4 tunnel ram intake now. Put weight on front axle and springs were almost flat. These are the stock 50 chevy truck springs that were on the axle when I got it. Found where they are rated at 850# new but who knows what they are now. I read on one web site where their straight front axle setup comes with 2500# rated springs. Any suggestions? I don't want to have to cut the mounts for new length springs. Update: Eaton spring has some great informaton on leaf springs on their website. Ordered a set of the front springs for the 50 1/2 ton Chevy truck with 3" of extra arch in them. I think these will solve my problem. Found a 2X4 setup for the Olds and it is on the way from Fairbanks, Alaska of all places. Narrowing rear axle this week. Attachments:

you might be able to buy a helper spring, like you would put on the rear end to help haul heavy loads.

Search the web for a spring shop in your area. Most industrial cities ave one. I'm not sure if they will ship to you, but over here in Baltimore there is Peters Spring and allignment. They will make any spring you want. Any size, weight, and length. 410-685-0606

Like straightaxle64nova said, find a spring shop in your locale. Take your springs to them and have them re-arched. Those springs (when in the truck) are practically flat to begin with. There's probably nothing wrong with them, that's just how they are. Arching them shouldn't be a problem for any reputable spring shop.
