Is your 55 p/u axle from a first series truck or second series? In 55, trucks completely changed mid-year, which will make a difference in axle width. The newer being slightly wider.

Welcome! Like was said before the '55 chevy truck axle is wider, not sure how much. We used '49-'54 truck axles and I believe they were about 51" wide backing plate to backing plate and some people think they are very close to the original frontend width. But I think with skinny front tires on the front they could run a little wider and still look right without pushing the tires too close to the outside of the car. Hope this helps.

There's no need to buy or change spindles (unless you don't have any to start with) on the truck axles. There are plenty of brake conversions and kits for the truck spindles. It's even possible to keep the drums and change to 5 lug if you were so inclined.

this axle must be the older one as the springs mount at 32" center to center which was great for the new frame rails you are right about the spindles they have disk brake set up for this axle, thanks for your input.
