Congrats on your build, I hope all goes well for you. It sure can be done by you at home, just make sure you measure correctly for everything. As far as your welder goes, I had a Blue Point 120v welder when I started my car. The only thing it was good for was tacking body panels and sheet metal together. I was able to fix the floors in thecar, but when it came to doing chassis work, I needed a good 240v welder. I use an old LincolnArc Commercial MIG welder with a 100% duty cycle that I got from work when I was working at a machine shop. My boss upgraded and was getting rid of the old one. Check on craigslist in your area for a decent welder for a deal, or you can go to your local harbor freight (if you have one) and get one. The harbor freight stuff may have a 50% duty cycle, which means you could weld a bit, then take a break for a bit.
As far as the Speedway kit goes, I liked it and the only thing that I would change is the spring perches for the axle. Mine bent and eventually cracked, so I made my own out of 1/2" stel channel. I also used new U-bolts that wrapped around the axle and a plate on top of the springs instead of the spring wrapped u-bolts in the kit. This way ensures that if a perch does break away from the axle, thwe axle stays secured to the spring.
Good luck with your build!
