Well, I took the ole Nova out of the garage for the 1st cruise of 2014 last Saturday evening, after work. Climbed in, turned on the fuel pump and the higher than normal pitch told me there was no fuel. Oh yeah, I ran it out of fuel in November (the last time I had it fired up). Only had some 87 octane from the snow blower in the gas cans, so in went a gallon and on the 3rd try of the starter, it fired and kept running! My Nova was singing to me again! Warmed it up and out of the garage it went. First stop, the gas station. Filled up with 93 octane, no more surging or run on. Next stop, the old ice cream drive-in to meet up with my buddy, Willie, in his 65 Olds Cutlass convertible. Then a cruise to another friend's house to see if we could coax him out in his shortened 69 Chevelle (it was a four door shortened into a two door). When we got there, he was covered in body filler dust as he was working on grafting a 40 Ford nose onto a Volkswagen Beetle. No go for him, so we headed out to Havre De Grace, where the Susquehana River meets the Chesapeake Bay. Lots of people checking out the cars as we cruised through. Oh what's this? A mini-tubbed 69 Dart passing by. Cool, others ARE out! Out of Havre De Grace and onto the county seat, Bel Air. We cruised Bond Street and then Main Street and Willie pulls up next to me and says something, but I can't hear him over the song the Nova was singing. He takes the lead and we cruise out of Bel Air and to the local Wawa convenience store. There we meet up with my in-laws and 3 other friends in their hot rods. They are heading out to Baltimore County to a cruise-in but I have to work in the morning and the wife was getting off of work in an hour, so I head home. With about 25 miles on it, I get home and back to the garage. After opening the garage door, I ook back at the Nova and see that the driver's side drag radial is completely worn in one spot to the cords. Maybe this week I'll change the tires back to the street tires. LOL! I hope all of you have a good time on the first cruise of 2014 like I did.
